Kickstarter, 40 To Go and Anger
I have to write this before 2012 starts and I only ave 45 minutes. Took forever to revamp the site after the shut down.
First, 40 to Go will come around. Just not in the form and fashion originally planned. Normally, i would go back through time and explain what I started to do and what I was trying to do and what goals i wanted to catch this part of the journal up to speed. But this time I am not. Suffice to say, I went for something, assumed quite a few people had my back … and they didn’t. Getting past all the ‘go fuck yourselves’ and severity of my angst, I can look at that whole process as an opportunity to not just see myself, but see many other people too.
It was crazy. Still is, if you think about it. Here it is, I did not accomplish getting the goal, and I have people contacting me … people who were down to be part of the project, asking me if I succeeded. What the fuck you think? If you were REALLY down and interested, you would have known first hand. Better yet, you would have backed the project … as low as a $1.00.
And don’t think for a minute i didn’t get up Monica’s ass about it either. She’s the greatest offender because she’s right here and knows what I was trying to do. Had to practically argue my case for her to back it and that was wrong. 90 days later she’s telling me she was planning to back the shit … and I tell her and everyone else, no credit cards charged until the end.
It’s not the fact that I didn’t accomplish the goal that bothers me … it’s the fucked up lack of response I got from key players and it put me in the mood of wanting to dead this whole thing because you can’t want to be a part of this and not answer the call.
Ahhhh, but how wrong I was. Bottomline: everyone has their own lives to lead and I can’t depend on people to ‘follow me’ when they have their own lives which requires them to lead and do what they have to do.
Yes, and I can shit out a whole bunch of other Doctor Phil level justifications to have peace with this … and I’m trying. Lord knows I’m trying, and I’ll just leave 2011 with this blog entry as my answer to the cast and crew to what happened and what happens next. My final on it: AS LOW AS A FUCKING DOLLAR and NO cards charged unless successful. A fucking $1.00 … This is where the well placed SMH acro40 To Gos in handy.
There … final vent done … that’s where I leave the anger. Time to move on.
The 40 To Go Pilot came to a screeching halt because of previous anger and 40 To Gost deleted and burned … almost. But then I had another … better idea.
You see, the teaser for 40 To Go did fairly well and received decent response. The pacing was just right for the amount of time it took me to do it and it didn’t make any sense to have a pilot episode that was much slower and not even close to the same impact. Plus the original pilot episode had audio issues and I had to re-record it at more expense.
So the idea changed to do a new pilot episode but told in a ‘report style’ from an officer explaining what happened in this huge car chase that wrecked half the highway. It allowed me to cut out almost all voices and still tell a story. I’m actually done with it and editing. T40 To Goend of Kickstarter, the shutdown and here we are.
With 2012 focusing more on my writing, 40 To Go almost bit the dust but, to be quite honest, I actually love the story and the characters. While doing the series can be done at ZERO expense animation-wise, the cost was in cast and crew. Moving forward, I’ve activated Plan D and it involves no one getting paid and knowing full well no one will work on this project without getting paid, I’m doing what I do best and rewrite to meet my options … which are less than zero.
Since I already wrote season one, the idea is to convert it into a novel, post the pilot episode as a quasi-overblown Book Trailer and use them both to leverage eyeballs by April when the series begins as originally slated.
In a nutshell: Fuck it, I’m just going to do it anyway and honor the TEN backers of the kickstarter campaign that did think the project was good to go. They are …
