Progressive and Rotating Facebook Covers

With the release of Butta‘:Worldwide rapidly approaching, marketing has begun at least on the Facebook fan pages with what I’m calling progressive covers. This is inspired by an old Back to The Future III poster campaign I saw years back where every few weeks they updated the poster with a little bit more of an image. First it was the horses being pulled into the scene. Then a little bit more of the horses pulling the Delorian until the title was revealed.

The Butta: Worldwide covers start with the tip of a motorcycle. Side note: the reason it’s doing a wheelie is primarily because the way Facebook covers are designed, I can’t remove the headshot profile box in the bottom left corner. LOL…so the wheelie is lifted above the box and turned out to be a nice image to continue with moving forward.

Each week, leading up to the release date, there will be a little bit more of the scene which is taken directly from the sequel.

Each cover will also have a quote from either the first book or the sequel. ‘finally’ is exactly how I feel about it. I came a long way from 2007. I can’t thank Ebony and Neil Phillips enough for starting this brake-less rocket and it’s been an adventure.

Also …

40 To Go stumbled but has a strong following that seems to be waiting. So, to clear the air and any confusion, 40 To Go will be a series of enhanced ebooks for the iPad. Armed with my Mac Mini, iPad and months of HTML5 experience, it’s on. Same rules apply, just different and all the actors you kow and love will still be portraying the characters that they were assigned … just different. Similar to the sample version I posted online, the novel will interject audio and video in sections with clips of animation.

Not motion comic animation.

Animation. Thus the need for slight character redesign, also. The cover for 40 To Go is not progressive, but rotating. Showcaseing every character in the series until the book releases.

Date? Don’t hold me to one, please. LOL … but you know it’s almost there when you hear me talking about recording schedule’s with the actors and we run through all 17 characters in the covers.

First up … Julissa:

AppleBytes Model #2 – Henry

“Henry” was designed to help a good friend (Oana Niculae) with an image for her article. The timing of the image coincided with my recent weekend where I spent defending my race. As I posted on Facebook …

“A reminder that the African-American Male has value and intelligence, in addition to sex appeal, equal to any other human male. No more. No less. “

According to quite a few people, Black women and other cultures alike, my statement is NOT the case.

I beg to differ.

AppleBytes: BookCoverModels without the Book Covers

AppleBytes was created last night, literally. I wanted to continue developing 3D art in between the book covers I’m doing for myself and I was looking at all these PhatApple women being posted on Facebook and thought I needed to get back to developing this to get closer to a real looking female. Facebook page Sketchbook Models said I could post an image so I did.

Kira was done in under two hours (rendered for about an hour more) and this was part of my “if I can’t do it QUICK, then I’m wasting my time.” ideology when it comes to doing random 3D pieces of art. I can’t waste time on working on one piece for three days like I use to. maybe if it’s a close up … maybe … but if I have an idea, I need to execute it quickly because I’ll be on it too long and I have a load of other things to do.

Like the next Leslie Road Detective Mystery Novel cover is the next one I’m doing but thats being developed along side of the tutorial I’m recording on the workflow. So If I couldn’t do Kira quickly, then I would have had to put her down.

My issues with her is my constant battle to understand the amount of diffuse mapping on the SSS Map and the Specular map. Balancing them is a process in itself.

Naturally, this continued study is necessary for the demo reel I’m working on for animation so working AppleByte women from time to time keeps the skill set flexible.

Why AppleBytes? it’s a play on the whole PhatApple/AppleBottom/Computer Bytes thing.

The thing is, African-American’s are under represented in CG artwork so why not.

An Author’s Mission Statement

Play this while reading. Nothing like a good tune to go with a release of the soul:

I started this life with one mission and that mission continues to this day. It’s not as clean as it originated and it has quite a bit of visible road mileage on it, but it exists and I feel the need to recharge it by stating what has been obvious to me for 43 years, but possibly a pipe dream to others. Regardless, this was what I swore to do and I still have work to do.

It is my intention, with everything I write, to make the reader ‘feel’. It is through that connection, between me and the reader, I hope to convey that I care to help them think, relax, see things differently and open their minds to their own higher calling. It is my duty as an author to take this unique power of adjusting another human beings point of view with words alone and use it for the greater good of the world and not just for profit. When I start writing solely for the love of money, then I will have insulted my purpose and tainted the message I try to deliver in every story. On that day, I should no longer have the right to write every again.

My purpose is to improve the world. I am no superman, I will never be a President. I am a storyteller with an ability to write words to suggest to many how much brighter the world can be through quasi-fictional accounts that the reader could relate to; even as they thrill for main characters and express hope for a satisfying resolution to a plot. From this form of entertainment, and triggering the reader to feel with every page, it is my hope for the reader to think deeply on connections in their own lives; realizing regardless of the culture, we are all simply separated by perception.

My job is to adjust perception for the better and that form of love ripples through time.

If I were never to make a dime writing in my life and discovered many people thought differently because of something I wrote, I will be rich till time indefinite and be worthy of being called ‘human’.

[Making of the Demo Reel Project] #3 – Initial Script

The term ‘script’ is used loosely here because there is very little dialogue. The 3.5 minute demo reel is in motion by the music. This script is my foundation to what’s generally going on in broad strokes. From here, I break this down to what scenes are staying or going, all the elements required, effects, etc etc.

All of which gets tightened after the storyboard process and that’s coming up. Heading to New York soon for a week so I’ll have AMPLE time to do the sketches then for that and edit a a novel or two.

Attached is the basic script. There will likely be changes along the way, but call this version 1.0
